Understanding of Management
Management comes from
English , management , which is developed
from the word to manage , which means managing or managing. The
word manage itself comes from the Italian language ,
mannegio , which is adopted from the Latin managiare ,
which comes from the word manus , which means hand. So
management is basically an effort to regulate everything (resources) to reach
an organization.
According to Malay SP Hasibuan (2006: 09)
Management is the science and art of measuring the process of utilizing human
resources and other resources effectively and efficiently to achieve a certain
goal.
Marihot
Manullang (2008: 3) Management is the art and science of planning, organizing,
compiling, directing and controlling resources, especially human resources to
achieve predetermined goals.
According to T.Hani
Expert Handoko (2010: 10 ) . Management is working
with people to determine, interpret, and achieve organizational goals by implementing
the functions of planning, organizing, preparing personnel, directing,
leadership and supervising.
According to Drs. M. Manullang (2009:
15) management is the science and art of recording, organizing, compiling,
and directing, and monitoring of a human resource to achieve a predetermined
goal.
According
to Hasibuan (2007: 10) in the book Human Resource Management revising
edition i 2003 stated that. "Management is the science and art
that regulates the process of utilizing resources humans and other sources
effectively and efficiently to achieve certain goals . "
Based on the opinion above, it can be said that
management can be interpreted as a process, namely a series of actions,
activities, or jobs that lead to certain goals. Through the use of both
science and art such as ability and skill in doing assignments, having high
taste in the development of all sectors and having a distinctive
appearance as an entrepreneur or leader. Therefore, as the core
ofleadership is decision making. To do a series of actions can be
identified.
Management
function
The management function
in the organization is an important device and a matter
that must be developed for the achievement of organizational goals and to give
satisfaction to the members in it. Even management functions are the
benchmark of the organization in achieving its objectives so that every
organizational activity must be based on procedures (SOP) strategies, policies
and rules that have been set in management functions (POAC), the purpose of
general management functions to properly control all organizational activities,
as the ability of professional human resources, resulting in superior
performance and maximum work results and the achievement of goals that provide
welfare for all parties in the organization.
Robbins and Coulter
(2004: &) reveal the importance of management functions as certain
activities in order to manage work efficiently and effectively.
At least according to
Robbin and Mary there are 5 (five) managerial functions that must exist in an
organization, the following can be seen in the five management functions:
a) Planning (Planning)
b) Organizing (Organizing)
c) Assignment (Commanding)
d) Coordination (Coordinating)
e) Control ( Controling )
But
what is better known and commonly used by organizations is the management
function proposed by George Tery in Handoko (2008: 3), the management function
consists of:
a) Planning (Planning)
b) Organization ( Organization )
c) Mobilization of the implementation (Actuating)
d) Supervision (Controlling)
From the opinion about the management function
above, overall putting the planning ( Planning ) at the top of
the order, thus experts put the planning of the most important things in the
management function.
